Army Man

Is the army national guard a good idea for a single mother?

Im a 20 yr old mother and I want to go in but im not sure if its really worth it or should I just finish school. Im in school to be a teacher. And if so which one is better the Army or the Army national guard or the reserve.

  1. You can't go AD. If you want to be in the NG or reserves you will need to have a Family Care Plan. It is just a outline of who will be taking care of your child why you are away at basic, ait and deployments etc. You will have decent education benefits and can participate in the troops to teachers program. However you need to be willing to handle leaving your child for your military duties.
  2. yes, it is worth it. the national guard because there is a less chance of getting killed
  3. yes. a girl i went to basic was a single mother. she had to join the NG. The thing with the Army is once your in your in. That being said...you can later switch to full time active duty army or try to get a full time job in the guard. you have a lot of options. The active army just doesn't take single moms looking to enlist for the first time for obvious reasons.
  4. You can't go AD if youre a single mother, Single Parents are not allowed to enlist in the US Military, period. Except for the Army National Guard, waiver approvals are very, very, very rare, and most recruiters won't even submit one. In the "old days," some recruits would try to get around this restriction by giving up legal custody of their child(ren) until after basic training and job school, but the military has wised up to this practice. maybe the Army National guard...get married if you have a boyfriend, and then you can Enlist
  5. you can go AD if you give custody of your children over to a parent or relative for your first term of service. the above poster have given you several options.
